Job Title: Full-Time Pre-Doctoral Fellow/Research Assistant.
Location: University of Toronto, Department of Economics and Rotman School of Management.
Faculty Members: Nate Baum-Snow, Victor Couture, Stephan Heblich.
Desired Start Date: Summer 2025.
We are looking for two highly skilled and motivated individuals to work as full-time research assistants at the University of Toronto. This one-year position can be extended to two years at the faculty members’ discretion. The job will entail close collaboration with faculty at all stages of the research process on several empirical projects in urban, labor, history, environment, transportation, development, and applied microeconomics.
These positions offer the opportunity to gain exposure to and training in a broad set of economic research topics and approaches, including data-intensive methods that will help pursue a Ph.D. in economics, finance, and related fields. The chosen candidates will also gain valuable experience analyzing large data sets and working with Stata, R, GIS, Python, Matlab, and Julia. The role is based on-campus, sharing workspace with other fellows.
The ideal candidate should: (i) have completed a 4-year undergraduate degree or a Master’s degree in Economics or a related field; (ii) have a solid quantitative background; (iii) have programming experience; (iv) be able to work both independently and in team settings; and (v) be planning to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics or a related field. Compensation: USW Pay Band 07 — $60,237 + benefits , with an annual step progression. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
