A new case study from SEMUJERES, in collaboration with J-PAL Latin America and the Caribbean, FOS Co-Director Gustavo Bobonis, FOS Affiliate Clémentine Van Effenterre, and Manisha Shah, illustrates the importance of evidence-based policy reforms and community-based engagement in shifting gender norms. This partnership began in 2020 and has transformed the way SEMUJERES develops appropriate interventions and support systems for victims of gender-based violence.

Drawing on randomized evaluations, the partnership piloted the Acá Entre Compas (Just Between the Guys) Program, an intervention for adult men aimed at shifting gender norms surrounding masculinity and violence. SEMUJERES also developed an enhanced conditional cash transfer (CCT) program for victims of gender-based violence, which included complementary social, psychological, and legal supports to help break cycles of violence.
